Charleston’s Best Tours was originally started by Jim Miles in 1999 and is now the 5th oldest walking ghost tour company in the city of Charleston. At the time Jim believed that guests of our city needed an economical yet quality solution to rising touring costs and cookie-cutter tours. Having moved to Charleston in 1995, Jim became a permanently licensed tour guide in 1997 and holds an undergraduate degree in History and a Master’s Degree in Southern History from the College of Charleston where his thesis was focused on prisoners and prisons during the Civil War. Jim was able to blaze the trail for one of the first walking ghost tours based solely on well-documented, primary-source stories he obtained from local downtown sources. From its rising popularity, Jim was able to grow the company and its roster of hand-picked professional tour guides to the status of semi-international notoriety.

Jim passed the company on to a few of his devoted staff in 2004 after deciding to commit to his new family and newly-ordained family pastor obligations at one of our local churches. Since then, our long-term guides have been chronicled by AAA Magazine and have earned one of the highest percentages of repeat clientele ever. We also tour those haunted places featured on the Travel Channel, History Channel, A&E, CNN, Southern Living Magazine and all of the rest, but our professionals are second to none as they continue to set the bar for quality, education, and entertainment – in other words, we don’t use temp-service workers reading from a book!
